The book, Clinical Applications of Digital Dental Technology, co-edited by Carl Driscoll, DMD, professor and director of postgraduate prosthodontics, and Radi Masri, DDS, MS '01, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, was published by Wiley-Blackwell. The textbook contains chapters written and co-written by the following UMSOD faculty members: Ira Bloom, DDS ’72, clinical assistant professor in the Department of General Dentistry, Ashraf Fouad, DDS, MS, professor and chairman of the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, Gary Hack, DDS ’79, associate professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, Joana Kempler, DDS, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, and Jeffery Price, DDS, MS, associate professor in the Department of Oncology & Diagnostic Sciences.
The paper, “Chlamydia caviae infection alters abundance but not composition of the guinea pig vaginal microbiota,” written by Patrik Bavoil, PhD, professor and chairman of the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis, and others, was published in the journal Pathogens and Disease in March.
The paper “Modality-specific mechanisms of PKC-induced hypersensitivity of TRPV1: S800 is a polymodal sensitization site,” written by Man-Kyo Chung, DMD, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Neural and Pain Science, Jin Ro, PhD, professor in the department, and others, was published in the journal Pain in May. In addition, Chung, Ro and Christine Dumler, DDS ’17, are among the co-authors of the paper, “The Role of TRPM2 in Hydrogen Peroxide-induced Expression of Inflammatory Cytokine and Chemokine in Rat Trigeminal Ganglia,” which was published in the journal Neuroscience in April.

The paper “Evidence of Effectiveness of Current Therapies to Prevent and Treat Early Childhood Caries,” written by Vineet Dhar, BDS, MDS, PhD, MBA, clinical assistant professor and director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, and others, was published in the May/June issue of the journal Pediatric Dentistry. Dhar and Norman Tinanoff, DDS ’71, MS, professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, are among the co-authors of the paper “Progress in Early Childhood Caries and Opportunities in Research,” which was also published in the May/June issue of Pediatric Dentistry.
The paper, “Identification of Toxemia in Patients with Clostridium difficile infection,” written by Hanping Feng, PhD, professor in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis, and others, was published in the journal PLoS One in April.
The paper, “PLU-1/JARID1B overexpression predicts proliferation properties in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma,” written by Li Mao, MD, professor and chairman of the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences, and others, was published in the journal Oncology Reports in May.
The paper, “Erosive potential of processed and fresh orange juice on human enamel,” written by Mary Ann Melo, DDS, MSc, PhD, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, and others, was published in the Journal of Dentistry for Children.
The paper, “Estradiol modulates visceral hyperalgesia by increasing thoracolumbar spinal GluN2B subunit activity in female rats,” written by Richard Traub, PhD, professor and vice chair of the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences, Guang Bai, PhD, MD, research assistant professor in the department, and others, was published in the journal Neurogastroenterology & Motility in March.

The paper, “Development of novel dental adhesive with double benefits of protein-repellent and antibacterial capabilities,” written by Huakun Xu, PhD, MS, professor and director of the Division of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Michael Weir, PhD, research assistant professor, and others, was published in the journal Dental Materials in May. Xu, Ashraf Fouad, DDS, MS, professor and chairman of the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, and Mary Ann Melo, DDS, MSc, PhD, clinical assistant professor in the department, are among the co-authors of the paper, “Novel protein-repellent and biofilm-repellent orthodontic cement containing 2-metharcryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine,” which was published in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research in May.
The paper, “Motor cortex stimulation suppresses cortical responses to noxious hindpaw stimulation after spinal cord lesion in rats,” written by Radi Masri, DDS, MS '01, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, Joel Greenspan, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences, and others, was published in the March-April edition of the journal Brain Stimulation.
