Ashraf Eid, DDS, a first-year endodontics resident, won second place in the American Association of Endodontists poster research presentation competition for his project, “Effect of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors on periapical healing following nonsurgical root canal treatment: a retrospective cohort study.”

Guadalupe Garcia, DMD, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, won second place in the International Association for Dental Research Prosthodontic Research Group for her project, “Accuracy of 3-unit Fixed Implant Prosthesis Impressions, Conventional Versus Digital.”

Bill Hoffman, MAS, department administrator for the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, has been elected president-elect of the northeast section of the Society of Research Administrators International.

Shaina Holman, DDS ’15, received the Olav Alvares Award from the American Dental Education Association for the most outstanding article published in the Journal of Dental Education.

Heejin Kwon, DDS ’16, won first place in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s (AACD) Undergraduate Clinical Case Poster Competition for her research poster entitled, “Integrating Macro/Microabrasion and Dental Whitening to Re-establish Dental Esthetics,” during the AACD annual meeting in San Francisco in May.

Ali Nosrat, DDS, a third-year endodontics resident, won first place in the American Association of Endodontists poster research presentation competition for his project, “The effect of residual bacteria on dental pulp regeneration.”

Brynne Reece, DDS, a third-year endodontics resident, won third place in the American Association of Endodontists poster research presentation competition for her project, “Advanced glycation end products in dental pulp.”

Juheon Seung, DDS ’13, a first-year endodontics resident, won third place in the American Association of Endodontists table clinic competition for his project, “Knotless suturing in endodontic surgery.”

Bradley Trattner, DDS ’88, ENDO '90, a Dean’s Faculty member in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, has been named president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Clemencia Vargas, DDS, PhD, associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, has been selected as a faculty fellow by the UMB Center for Community-Based Engagement and Learning. The program is designed to engage and support fellows’ interest in enhancing community engaged learning and scholarship using a social justice framework.

Ping Wang, DDS, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry, received the International Association for Dental Research 2015 Arthur R. Frechette Prosthodontic Research Award for New Investigators. Dr. Wang received the award for her research and presentation, “An Injectable Self-Setting Calcium Phosphate-Alginate-iPSMSCs Paste for Bone Tissue Engineering.”
