Speaker Biography
Dr. Carl F. Driscoll is a distinguished educator, clinician, researcher, author, and lecturer with an extensive career dedicated to prosthodontics and dental education. He serves as a Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he previously led the Prosthodontic Residency Program for 21 years (1997–2018). Before joining the dental school, Dr. Driscoll directed the Prosthodontic Residency Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for three years. A retired U.S. Army Colonel with 20 years of service, Dr. Driscoll has earned numerous accolades from both military and professional prosthodontic organizations. He has delivered over 600 lectures nationally and internationally, authored more than 90 journal articles, and co-authored three textbooks.He has received many awards from the military as well as prosthodontic organizations throughout his career.
Dr. Driscoll is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). He has held prestigious leadership roles, including President of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, the American Board of Prosthodontics, and the ACP.In addition to his teaching commitments, he is in private practice in Bethesda, MD.
Course Description
Not all patients can afford implant therapy, making removable partial dentures (RPDs) a valuable treatment option. This course revisits the tenets of proper RPD design and fabrication with incorporating many examples of clinical treatment ranging from basic principles to the most complex RPD’s. There will be a hands-on component where participants will design and treatment plan partially edentulous patients. Appropriate discussion will ensue to cater to patients currently in your practice. Multiple frameworks will be presented and discussed. Participants are encouraged to bring their casts to the course for discussion and RPD designing.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Evaluate and implement treatment alternatives to implant therapy.
- Minimize unwarranted forces on the remaining teeth.
- Plan the RPD in conjunction with complex fixed treatment in proper sequence to ensure successful results.
