Speaker Biography

Dr. David Mazza is a distinguished dentist with advanced expertise in operative and aesthetic dentistry. Following his dental school education, Dr. Mazza completed a two-year post-doctoral program in “Advanced Study in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry” at Boston University, earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS).

Since 2000, Dr. Mazza has served as a volunteer Dean’s Faculty Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. For over two decades, he has played a pivotal role in educating dental students and residents. Until 2023, he conducted 36 hours of aesthetics-focused seminars and hands-on training annually for first- and second-year residents in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program. As the course director for “Aesthetic Dentistry” and “Dental Implants” for D3 and D4 students, Dr. Mazza has significantly contributed to shaping the clinical and theoretical knowledge of aspiring dental professionals. He also leads elective presentations affiliated with the Office of Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Mazza is an accomplished speaker, frequently delivering continuing education courses at dental schools, professional symposiums, and study clubs across the United States. His extensive knowledge in aesthetic and implant dentistry has solidified his reputation as a leading expert in the field.

A Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry (ABAD), Dr. Mazza is also an Associate Member (by invitation) of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED). His professional affiliations include the American Society for Dental Aesthetics (ASDA), the International Academy for Dental and Facial Esthetics (IADFE), the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD), the Maryland State Dental Society (MSDA), and the American Dental Association (ADA).

Dr. Mazza has pursued advanced prosthetic and surgical training at the renowned Misch International Implant Institute (MIII) and has been recognized with multiple accolades, including a first-place award for his presentation at an International Conference and two Excellence in Teaching awards from the Dean of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Course Description

This comprehensive continuing education course is tailored for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants eager to enhance their skills in the planning, preparation, and placement of porcelain laminate veneers.

Participants will explore advanced techniques and strategies for achieving superior aesthetic and functional outcomes in restorative dentistry using porcelain veneers. The course will cover the latest advancements in materials, bonding techniques, patient selection criteria, periodontal considerations and step-by-step procedural approaches.

Emphasis will be placed on clinical decision-making, managing patient expectations, and addressing potential challenges in achieving optimal results. Through hands-on exercises and case-based discussions, attendees will gain confidence to seamlessly incorporate porcelain laminate veneers into their practice, elevating their ability to provide high-quality, esthetic restorations.

A skillful practitioner needs to be familiar with dental anomalies and their treatment, concepts of color and shade matching and selection, periodontal aesthetics, the role of lips and lip-line, photography and smile evaluation and treatment planning, concepts of occlusion, dental materials and selection of appropriate restorative modality, bonding to different media, phonetics, etc. that will be reviewed during this course.
