Speaker Biography

Dr. Rafael Siqueira is a Board Certified Periodontist, Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Periodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University. He graduated from the DDS program at the University of Pernambuco, Brazil, in 2010. He obtained a master’s degree in Oral Sciences (Implantology) in 2013 from the Latin American Institute of Dental Research and Education (Ilapeo), Brazil, and a PhD in Oral Sciences in 2018 from the Federal University of Pernambuco. As part of his

doctoral studies, he worked as a research fellow at the School of Dentistry, University of Michigan. In 2021, he completed a Periodontics Residency at the School of Dentistry, University of Michigan, with a master’s in science degree. Dr. Siqueira has previously worked from 2011 to 2018, part-time, in private practice focusing on Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry, and held a teaching position in Periodontics at the Facipe College, Brazil, and in Implant Dentistry at a Specialization course at the

Tavares Vieira Institute, Brazil. In 2022, Dr. Siqueira received Board Certification in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery by the American Board of Periodontology.

 

Course Description

This course explores essential concepts in dental implant therapy with a focus on achieving long-term success through a biological and restorative approach with immediate implants in the esthetic zone. Participants will learn how to plan immediate cases by visualizing key aspects of the soft and hard tissues, enhancing precision in implant placement and restorative treatment. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the impact of implant positioning on peri-implant tissue health and how to manage both hard and soft tissues to ensure durable, functional, and esthetic outcomes. 

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify favorable socket anatomy for immediate implant placement
  • Explore the role of planning in visualizing soft- and hard-tissue features that dictate the long-term outcomes
  • Describe the biological principles guiding peri-implant tissue health and how implant positioning influences outcomes.
  • Learn strategies for managing peri-implant hard and soft tissues for long-term success.
  • Apply biological and restorative concepts to clinical practice, ensuring predictable implant restorations.
