Speaker Biography

Dr. Douglas Kistler is an assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry/Comprehensive Care. 

Dr. Kistler graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1991 and then pursued his dental school education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, graduating in 1995.  After completing a General Practice Residency (GPR) at York Hospital, York, Pa., he pursued a career in private practice for 26 years in Spring Grove, Pa. Dr. Kistler joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2022.     

Dr. Kistler received his fellowship award (FAGD) from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) in 2005. He then received his mastership (MAGD) in 2016. Dr. Kistler currently pursues continuing education through the AGD as well as a Spear Study Club, in association with the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, Ariz. He also has supported and participated in multiple dental mission efforts throughout the years in  Pennsylvania.

Course Description

This lecture will review patient management, patient history work up, office preparation, equipment, instrument, supplies preparation, as it relates to dental trauma. Course will also review four case studies.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Manage dental trauma in an efficient, thorough manner
  • Properly work up a thorough trauma patient assessment and diagnosis
  • Learn a proper chair side set up to manage a trauma patient by themselves after hours
  • Learn of resources available to aid in the management of the diagnosed trauma
