Speaker Biography

Sarah Glass, DDSDr. Sarah Glass, DDS obtained her DDS from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and completed a three year Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology residency at New York Presbyterian/Queens. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Today, she works as an assistant professor at VCU School of Dentistry. Her job responsibilities include teaching, working in the biopsy service, and seeing oral medicine patients.

 

Course Description

Ever encounter an oral lesion and not know what it is or what to do about it? Join us to review concerning oral lesions with plenty of pictures and management recommendations.  This lecture will start by reviewing the vast differential diagnosis of oral ulceration from benign common entities to oral manifestations of systemic diseases to oral cancer. Next, entities classified as oral potentially malignant disorders will be discussed followed by examples of oral cancer and a review of risk factors. Finally, the importance of head and neck exams and biopsies will be emphasized through an interactive picture session.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate key features of oral ulcerations to improve differential diagnoses
  2. Identify oral potentially malignant disorders and their malignant transformation potential
  3. Analyze risk factors for and presentations of oral and oropharyngeal cancer including HPV related tumors
  4. Recognize the importance of a head & neck exam, biopsies, and referrals for optimal patient care
